The Power of the Holy Ghost

Updated: Jan 1, 2021

Growing up, I was taught songs pertaining to the Holy Spirit such as "There's A Sweet Spirit in this Place" and 'Spirit of the Living God Fall Fresh on Me" but I didn't quite understand back then how the Holy Spirit operated.

As I look around today, I realize that many do not understand the power of the Holy Ghost or the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

In the Gospel of John there is a man by the name of Nicodemus who saw Jesus performing Miracles and preaching God's Word. Although Nicodemus was an educated man, he knew there was something important missing from his life. He searched for Jesus and had an encounter with Him because he knew that Jesus had to be sent from God.

In John 3:3, Jesus tells Nicodemus that one has to accept the Holy Spirit in one's heart be born again to see the Kingdom of God. Nicodemus asked Jesus how can an old man be born a second time into his mother's womb? Jesus tells Nicodemus in John 3:5 that unless one be born of water and Spirit, one cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.

It's a process the water is the cleansing through God's Holy Word and the beginning of our life long journey. John 3:6 reads " that which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit."

The flesh is not going down without a fight. It's almost like a baby having a tantrum it screams to have its way and the Only One who can put the flesh under subjection is the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is the new life in Christ.

In the Gospel of John 3:18 Jesus explains the power of the Holy Spirit is like the wind, "It blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes so is everyone born of the Spirit."

"Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of hosts." - Zechariah 4:6

We know how powerful the wind is by all of the natural disasters that we always see and so is the Holy Spirit. We can't see Him but He has the power to change the lives and hearts of men.

Jesus comforts His disciples by telling them that another Counselor is coming in John 14:16. Jesus knew that these trials of life would come. You see we have a helper to carry our load, we don't have to do it alone.

Often times, we find ourselves going through life trying to juggle problems with our own strength because that is the natural thing to do. If we are not careful, these problems can grow into giants like spiritual opposition and worldly obstacles like finances, emotional turmoil, laziness, single parenting, and more keeping us from operating within our full potential.

"You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you." - Romans 8:9

We decrease as God increases, and He will get the work done by His Spirit. As women, I know that God is speaking to us and calling us to step forth as women in unity who serve a Powerful, Living God.

"The Christian Life is supernatural in all aspects spiritual, emotional, physical, devotional, intellectual, and relational only the Spirit can initiate and sustain it. Apart from Him, not only will there be no lively believers and no lively congregation, there will be no believers and no congregation at all. " - J.I. Packer

"The Lord challenges us to suffer persecutions and to confess Him. He wants those who belong to Him to be brave and fearless. He shows us through The Word how weakness of the flesh is overcome by courage of the Spirit. This is the testimony of the apostles and in particular of the representative, administrating Spirit. A Christian is fearless." - Tertullian

Here are many attributes of the Holy Spirit:

1. He convicts us of sin (John 16:8)

2. He permanently indwells us (John 14:16-17)

3. He seals us (Eph. 1:13)

4, He Teaches us (John 14:26)

5. He guides us into all truth (John 16:13)

6. He reminds us (John 14:26)

7. He bears fruit through us (Gal. 5:22-23)

8. He comforts us (John 16:7)

9. He equips us with spiritual gifts (1Cor 12:4-7)

10. He fills us (Eph. 5:18)

11. He empowers us (Acts 1:18)

Cast all your troubles upon The Lord today and trust in the Power of the Holy Spirit to transform your life.
